 Mindfulness/Mindful Living Classes – Edenderry Parish Centre

6 weeks – Starting September 19, 2017 – Tuesday night, 7.30pm – 8.30pm –  Cost €70

These classes (6 weeks, 1 hour) will show using a combination of Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Life Coaching and Cognitive Behavioural ( CBT) techniques and other concepts, to calm your mind, be more aware of who you are and what you want.

You will learn:

  • What is Mindfulness and Mindful Living?
  • How Mindfulness can increase happiness and well-being and reduce stress
  • Mindfulness Exercises and Techniques you can use straight away
  • Calm your mind – deal better with challenges/difficult situations

Frequently asked questions about mindfulness-

 What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is returning your awareness from your wandering mind to what’s happening in the present moment, and doing so with acceptance. You have to return your awareness again and again because the mind wanders endlessly.

Mindfulness means being aware of what you are doing, while you are doing it. This means being aware that you are breathing, walking, driving, running making a phone call, cooking a meal and so on. When you have thoughts, notice that you have thoughts and come back to awareness of what you are actually doing. When you are emotional just notice the emotion – not trying to deepen it and not trying to push it away – and come back to awareness of what you are doing.

Why Mindfulness?
Mindfulness helps us to be more in the present, not ruminating about the past and anxious about the future. Mindfulness lowers stress, helps you to relate in a different way to the challenges of life and enhances your sense of well-being.  You can be mindful anywhere and you don’t need any kind of equipment – so mindfulness is completely mobile.

How can I practice mindfulness?
Mindfulness can be practiced in a variety of ways as part of your daily life. The simplest method is to practice returning your awareness to your breathing because your breathing is always happening in the present moment.

I don’t have the time for mindfulness.
Yes you do. You can make mindfulness part of your day and you can decide that you will do some of your routine activities (drinking tea, brushing your teeth etc) mindfully, for instance. If you can put some time aside to just be mindful. Mindfulness exercises and mindfulness techniques are aimed at people who are very busy – and nowadays that means almost everybody.

 Is mindfulness the same as living in the now?
Yes. When you practice mindfulness, you gently bring yourself back into the present moment every time you notice that you have drifted in your mind back to the past or into the future. Also, you gently bring yourself back to the present moment whenever you realise that you have drifted off into your imagination. The word “gently” is important. Never, ever scold yourself for drifting away from awareness. Drifting is what minds do. Accept this fact and take your awareness back to the present moment.

About me 

My name is Declan Conlon, I am a Personal Change and Mindfulness and Mindful living Coach. I am a qualified Life and Executive Coach and Mindfulness teacher.

Mindfulness and mindful life management has changed me and my life in a way that I could never have imagined. I am calmer and more at ease with myself and others. I have a clear awareness of where I am, and where I want to be. I am able to deal with negative thoughts that come into my head and not let them overwhelm me. I have a much better relationship now with myself, my family, friends and work colleagues.

My passion is to share this with others. My one to ones, classes and workshops, will show you techniques and places to look for your solutions, but will not tell you what to see. That is your individual choice.

SERVICES AND TRAINING I PROVIDE

 Mindfulness and Mindful living classes

These classes (6 weeks, 1 hour) will show using a combination of Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Life Coaching and Cognitive Behavioural ( CBT) techniques and other concepts, to calm your mind, be more aware of who you are and what you want. You will learn how to practice and incorporate this into to your life in an easy and non disruptive fashion. These classes allow you to gradually build Mindfulness and Mindful Living into your life….weekly practice and learning….build the habit.

These classes normally run from Mid January and Mid September for 6 weeks.

 Mindfulness/ Mindful Living Group

 I facilitate and lead a fortnightly group for people who know and practice Mindfulness. This group gives them the benefits of regular practice, share experiences and discussion with a group. When you meditate with others, it supports the meditation you do on your own. You have a common desire to achieve peace of mind. You get a boost.

 One to One Coaching

We all encounter personal change at various stages in life. It may be career, change of lifestyle, personal circumstances, retirement etc. At times like that we need a one to one relationship with someone we can trust to be confidential and qualified to help us find the way forward to happiness and fulfilment. I can provide that coaching relationship. I provide this service on a face to face basis or by phone or Skype for convenience.

 Mindfulness in the workplace workshops

People need to balance their needs as a person with their working life and their life outside work. It’s about overall effectiveness. If you are great at your job but your personal life is bad and vice versa, you will not have overall effectiveness. My workshops will give you the tools and help you find the means to harmonise both. Employers now realise the importance of this and often provide these workshops for their employees to help them. Success is a win-win for both employee and employer.
