Look After Yourself
In our fast-paced world, we are constantly chasing goals, deadlines, and responsibilities. Too often, we neglect to allocate and plan enough time for self-care. But looking after yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Making self-care a habit requires intention, motivation, and commitment, but the rewards are immense.
Small, consistent changes can lead to significant improvements over time. The compound effect of investing even a little time each day in yourself can enhance both your mental and physical well-being.
Start Your Day with Self-Care
A great way to prioritise self-care is by giving yourself extra time in the morning—perhaps waking up 30 to 60 minutes earlier than usual.
Here’s an example of my morning routine:
Morning Meditation (10 minutes) – I begin my day with a short meditation to set a positive tone. You can find countless guided morning meditations on YouTube, Insight Timer, or other meditation apps—or you can listen to the morning meditation I’ve recorded (link below)
Stretching (10 minutes) – I then play some relaxing yoga or meditation music and do a simple stretching routine. There are plenty of 10-minute guided stretching videos available online to follow.
Nourishment – I fuel my body with a simple, nutritious breakfast, such as Weetabix with blueberries, nuts, seeds, and soya milk, followed by a double espresso or a cup of tea.
This is what works for me, but self-care isn’t one-size-fits-all. You can design a routine that suits your lifestyle. If you have young children or other commitments that make mornings difficult, consider setting aside time in the evening instead. This might mean turning off the TV an hour before bed to engage in relaxation and self-care practices—just skip the double espresso at night!
You can do an end of day meditation instead. Find some on YouTube or my guided meditation – link below
Prioritise Your Well-being
The purpose of this blog isn’t to preach, but to encourage and motivate you to reflect on your self-care habits. No matter how busy life gets, if you don’t make time for your mind and body, you may need to reconsider your lifestyle. Neglecting your well-being now can have long-term consequences.
The key to lasting self-care is habit. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear or The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg—both offer valuable insights into building sustainable habits.
I hope this short blog inspires you to make small but meaningful changes in your daily routine. And if you’re already practising self-care regularly—well done! Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back.
